Concussion Management

Concussions are multifactorial and therefore should be assessed and treated with multifaceted collaborative care.

Individuals who have suffered from a concussion may fit into one, a couple, or all of the different types of concussions. A thorough assessment with a therapist trained in concussion management can help determine which classification you fit into and will help guide your treatment plan, including which other practitioners should be involved with your recovery.

Your concussion management team should include a sports medicine physician, a Certified Athletic Therapist or Physiotherapist and may also include a massage therapist, clinical counsellor or psychologist, optometrist, neuropsychologist, occupational therapist, dietician and others depending on your signs and symptoms.

There are 6 different types of concussions:

* Cognitive
* Ocular-motor
* Vestibular
* Anxiety/mood
* Cervicogenic (i.e. headaches, neck pain).

Individuals who have suffered a concussion may fit into one, many or all of these categories. Learn more about the different types of concussions on our blog.

Our team of professionals have many tools at our disposal to assist you in management of your concussion and your symptoms. Once your symptoms have resolved, we will guide you through the proper steps to return to sport, work, school, or whatever else your busy life has going on.

Just because your symptoms have decreased, does not mean you’re at pre-injury function or performance levels. We perform multiple levels of testing for those who want a more complete understanding of their progress.

Concussions can affect vision, balance, reaction time, and physiological responses. Testing multiple parts of your performance enables our team to more accurately determine the steps to take to help you get better as soon as possible.

Your brain is your most important asset. Put your head in our hands.
